When even rest is tiring

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:29-30 · ESV

Jesus, I have been pulling a yoke You never handed me. I built it out of other people's expectations and my own fear of being ordinary, and it is grinding me down. You say Yours is easy and Your burden is light. Teach me what You carry and what You leave behind. You are gentle and lowly in heart, and right now I am neither. Slow me down enough to learn from You. Give my soul the rest a weekend cannot. Amen.
